MAGNITUDE OF POSITION:

The Design Engineer provides technical design support for new and existing products.  The Design Engineer also provides technical advice to internal and external customers.

ENVIRONMENT OF POSITION:

A corporate environment within a manufacturer of transformers and coils in which teamwork, respect and integrity is espoused.  Functions independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team.  Works in an office and manufacturing environment with moderate noise levels and typical manufacturing conditions. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or physics or equivalent work experience
  • Experienced in the development and design of electrical or electronics products.  
  • Working knowledge of the manufacturing processes and materials utilized to manufacture electrical transformers and coils.
  • The ability to provide easily understood written and verbal communications to a broad range of both internal & external customers with diverse educations and backgrounds.
  • The ability to work independently on multiple projects with varying degrees of importance with minimal direct supervision.
  • Willing to travel up to 25% of the time to visit customers, suppliers and Micron production facilities.
  • Working knowledge of transformer design software, 2D CAD, and 3D Modeling software.
  • Well versed in the use of Microsoft Office products.
  • Familiar with domestic and international regulatory agency compliance standards and their impact on product design and production.
  • A team player who is always respectful of others.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Design Engineer is responsible for the timely development and refinement of new and existing products to both internal and external specifications and standards.  The Design Engineer also provides sustaining engineering support to Micron production facilities, customers and regulatory agencies.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Create or modify designs of Micron products on established timelines using sound engineering practices.
  • Create thorough and complete documentation of all design components required for the production, testing, packaging and safe delivery of Micron products.
  • Conduct disciplined reviews of all Micron products in search of design improvements that reduce cost, improve performance, assure compliance with regulatory requirements and provide superior value to Micron customers.
  • Provide technical counsel, advice and assistance as needed to all internal and external customers.
  • Develop and maintain a collaborative liaison with all internal and external customers to assure that projects are completed on-time and that Micron products are delivered fully compliant with all applicable design and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Micron Industries Corporation has been an industry leader for more than 40 years and the only major electrical manufacturer to focus exclusively on transformers and power supplies.   Our headquarters is in Oak Brook, IL with a manufacturing facility in Sterling, IL.  This full-time position is based in the Sterling, IL facility.

MAGNITUDE OF POSITION:

This position requires a diverse exposure to office, production floor and warehouse facilities in a fast-paced environment.  An integrated ERP System is used to plan and schedule operational activities in a Just in Time Environment.  Cross-functional teamwork is required for overall operational efficiency to achieve the company’s operational objectives including cost reduction and inventory accuracy.

ENVIRONMENT OF POSITION:

A corporate environment within a manufacturer of transformers and coils in which teamwork, respect and integrity is espoused.  Functions independently in a multi-task environment, as well as part of a team.  Works in an office and manufacturing environment with moderate noise levels and typical manufacturing conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three or more years of responsible experience in production planning, production control, or scheduling in a high-volume production environment.
  • Ability to communicate and effectively work with a diverse team including production, customer service, materials, and engineering.
  • Working knowledge of the manufacturing processes and materials utilized to manufacture electrical transformers and coils.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
  • The ability to provide easily understood written and verbal communications to a broad range of both internal & external customers with diverse educations and backgrounds.
  • Ability to use independent judgment, and use analytical thinking skills to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Capable of absorbing additional responsibility to meet anticipated growth in annual sales and manufacturing volume.
  • Good conflict resolution skills for process and people issues.
  • The ability to work independently on multiple projects with varying degrees of importance with minimal direct supervision.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Production Planner/Scheduler is responsible for the management of production orders/material requirements and works hand in hand with department supervisors/team leaders to ensure successful completion of work schedule while meeting customer requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • The Production Planner/Scheduler is responsible to work with Manufacturing, Customer Service/Sales and Engineering to develop and implement optimized production schedules, both customer orders and stock replenishment.
  • Clearly communicate production schedule daily with manufacturing departments and management. Clarify any open questions regarding the schedule.
  • Identify inconsistent customer requirements requiring “leveling” to achieve the acknowledged date.
  • Coordination of customer expedites, engineering change notices and new product implementation.
  • Interact with Manufacturing, Shipping, Customer Service/Sales, Materials and Engineering regarding schedule changes, shortages, or other topics to develop and maintain a good working relationship.
  • Assist in the tracking of component availability and on-hand balance accuracy.
  • Preparation of various manufacturing reports and assist in the management of daily operations.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
